Solar panel installation in Caribou County, Idaho

Soda Springs, Grace, Bancroft, and the communities around them: here's how Idaho's solar rules apply in Caribou County.

We design, install, and service home and cabin solar, battery backup, off-grid systems, and EV chargers across Caribou County, Idaho.

How solar is credited in Idaho

For Rocky Mountain Power customers in Idaho, the Idaho Public Utilities Commission set a time-differentiated export credit rate in November 2025. It applies to customers whose systems were installed since October 2020; customers who installed before then kept legacy status. Rocky Mountain Power was directed to use the new rate until it files an update on July 1, 2028.

Because the rules differ by utility, we confirm which utility serves your address, and its current solar terms, before we put a number on your savings.

Permits and approvals

Caribou County's Building Division reviews building permit applications and inspects each structure, and its Planning & Zoning division handles land use applications in unincorporated Caribou County.

In Idaho, a permit is required for any electrical work. The state Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) issues it unless a city or county has taken over electrical inspections locally.

DOPL's current inspector list assigns a state electrical inspector to Soda Springs, Grace, and Bancroft, so electrical inspections for solar there come from the state.

Green Box Solar is fully licensed and insured for electrical and solar work in both Utah and Idaho. Wherever you are in Caribou County, we handle the permits and utility paperwork for you with the city or county office that has jurisdiction over your property.

The federal solar tax credit: what changed

The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit covered 30% of the cost of home solar installed from 2022 through December 31, 2025. The IRS states the credit is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.

For a home system bought with cash or financing today, your savings come from the electricity you no longer buy and from your utility's credit for the energy you send back to the grid. Your quote shows both, using your utility's current terms.

Local facts last verified October 7, 2026. Utility rates and programs change, so we confirm your utility's current terms before every quote.
