Solar panel installation in Box Elder County, Utah

From Brigham City to Tremonton and the towns between, here's what decides how solar pays off in Box Elder County.

We design, install, and service home and business solar, battery backup, off-grid systems, and EV chargers across Box Elder County.

Your electric utility shapes how solar pays off

Brigham City runs its own electric utility, Brigham City Public Power, which buys its power through Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems. If your home or business is on Brigham City Public Power, your solar terms come from the city rather than from Rocky Mountain Power's Schedule 137.

Brigham City Public Power moved solar customers to net billing on August 18, 2022. The power you use from the grid is sold at the same price as to every other residential customer, and the power your system sends back is credited at a separate rate. Customers who were installed, or had a completed application, by August 18, 2022 were grandfathered.

For Rocky Mountain Power customers in Utah, solar falls under Schedule 137, Net Billing Service. Energy your system sends to the grid earns an export credit rate, with separate summer (June through September) and winter (October through May) rates reviewed and approved by the Utah Public Service Commission. The most recent revision took effect March 1, 2026.

Because the rules differ by utility, we confirm which utility serves your address, and its current solar terms, before we put a number on your savings.

Permits and approvals

Green Box Solar is fully licensed and insured for electrical and solar work in both Utah and Idaho. Wherever you are in Box Elder County, we handle the permits and utility paperwork for you with the city or county office that has jurisdiction over your property.

The federal solar tax credit: what changed

The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit covered 30% of the cost of home solar installed from 2022 through December 31, 2025. The IRS states the credit is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.

For a home system bought with cash or financing today, your savings come from the electricity you no longer buy and from your utility's credit for the energy you send back to the grid. Your quote shows both, using your utility's current terms.

Local facts last verified October 7, 2026. Utility rates and programs change, so we confirm your utility's current terms before every quote.
